Doctor of Medicine
Dr. Edward R. McInnis, Lt. (N), MD, CCFP, is a dedicated professional with a distinguished career in family and emergency medicine. With ten years of experience in emergency and trauma care and sixteen years as a family physician, he has contributed significantly to healthcare. Outside of his medical work, he is a father of four, a lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces, a Navy reservist, and an active volunteer in his community.
Born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, he is the eldest of four children. From an early age, he showed a keen interest in sports, participating in hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf. His abilities led him to compete at advanced levels, including Junior A hockey and earned him the attention of the Boston Red Sox, who scouted him as a potential pitcher. His dedication to physical activity continued into adulthood when he added weightlifting to his fitness routine.
He demonstrated a strong work ethic from a young age, starting a paper route at the age of ten and working full-time at McDonald's by thirteen. After completing high school, he earned a BBA from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, graduating in 1992. Following his undergraduate studies, he traveled extensively across the United States before pursuing further education.
He later attended Dalhousie University, earning a BSc (Honors) in Biochemistry and Genetics in 1997, followed by an Epidemiology Certification in 2002. He graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 2004 with a Doctor of Medicine degree and completed his postgraduate training in Emergency and Family Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
His professional certifications include licensure from the Medical Council of Canada and recognition from the Canadian College of Family Physicians. Additionally, he holds a commissioned rank as a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy, reflecting his dual dedication to medicine and military service.
Throughout his career, he has been honored with multiple accolades, including the Prince Edward Island Top Medical Student Scholarship and a Special Citation for Meritorious Service in the Canadian Armed Forces. He has also served in academia, taking on roles such as Associate Professor at Dalhousie University and Senior Professor at the Canadian Forces School of Physician Assistants.
He served as a medical officer in the Canadian Armed Forces for nine years, providing care both at home and on international deployments. He continues his military service as a Class B reservist, remaining committed to supporting his country.
Volunteering has always been an integral part of his life. He has contributed to homeless shelters in Halifax, Hamilton, and Toronto and has tutored children in group homes, demonstrating his dedication to giving back. As a practicing Christian and father, he is deeply involved in his children's activities, including coaching sports and participating in community events.
